The four typewriters take turns, each in one of its colors, typing on one of the six papers. What you type on your keyboard is printed on the sheet.
A typewriter lives at the bottom of your screen.
Type in any app,and it types along
Transparent, click-through, out of the Dock and never in your way. Write in Notes, Mail or your code editor, and it raises a typebar, moves the carriage, lays down ink and rings the bell at the end of the line.
Questions
What does Typebar see when I type?
Typebar asks for Input Monitoring so the typewriter can move as you type. It only listens: your typing is never changed or held back, and all it uses is which key went down and what kind it was (a letter, a space, a return). The app has no network code, so nothing you type leaves your Mac; only the App Store checks your purchase.
Can people see what I type on the typewriter?
By default, yes: the typewriter strikes the keys you press and prints what you type. In password fields macOS holds the keystrokes back, so it doesn’t move, and terminals, where passwords are typed blind, get random keys. Before you share or record your screen, switch to random keys from the typewriter in the menu bar, for every app or only some: each keystroke then lands on a random key and the paper gives nothing away.
Does it keep what I type?
The sheet in the typewriter is saved on your Mac, so it’s still there after a restart, and you’ll find it in the Library, where you can delete it. With real keys it holds what you typed; with random keys, random letters. A sheet fades through its last week and is deleted 30 days after its last keystroke, unless you choose to keep your sheets. It never leaves your Mac.
Does it work in every app?
Anywhere you type on your Mac: email, documents, chat, your code editor. You can also have it show up only in the apps you pick.
Will it get in my way?
No. It’s transparent, clicks pass straight through it, it never takes focus and it stays out of the Dock. Press ⌃⌥⌘T in any app to hide it or bring it back, or use the typewriter in the menu bar.
Can I turn the sound down?
Yes: set the volume or mute it from the menu bar.
Can I write on it?
Yes. Choose Start Writing and type straight onto the paper. Every sheet goes into your Library, where you can export it as a PDF. The paper takes English and French letters, accents included.
Can I try it first?
Yes, free for seven days, and the trial never charges you. After that, one purchase of lifetime membership makes it yours. If you don’t buy, the typewriter, sounds and auto typing stop, but your Library stays open to read and export.
Can I use it on another Mac?
Yes. Membership is bought on the App Store with your Apple Account: on another Mac signed in with the same account, open Membership & Trial and choose Restore Purchases.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases go through the App Store, so Apple handles refunds: you can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
What do I need?
A Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
